Ben Haggard e i suoi "Ritratti collettivi"
Ben Haggard è un pittore americano, disegnatore e scrittore che divide il suo tempo tra Santa Fe (New Mexico) e Berlino.L'artista ha iniziato il suo percorso all'Ecole Leo Marchutz in Aix-en-Provence (Francia), dove rapidamente sviluppa la sua preferenza per i lavori su carta (Acquarelli e Tempere) influenzato da artisti quali Turner, Bonnard, Kokoschka e Romanesque.
Il lavoro di Haggard è principalmente figurativo e riflette un grande interesse per il volto umano, dalle espressioni intense e dissolvenza della luce, schierandosi dalla parte della tradizione post-impressionista, soprattutto per quanto riguarda il colore, deformando la coerenza dell'immagine, poichè a lui interessa la tensione tra rappresentazione ed energia.
Negli ultimi anni l'artista ha dedicato molto tempo ad un progetto chiamato "Faces" (Volti, Visi), lavorando con acrilici su tela e creando "Ritratti Collettivi" a Santa Fe, San Francisco e Berlino, dipingendo personaggi che vivono in quelle cittą e disponendoli in fila come delle bandiere, riuniti come un lungo tappeto e riuscendo a creare un equilibrio dinamico tra l'individualismo e la comunitą (collettivismo).

Ben Haggard's "Collective portraits"
Ben Haggard is an american painter, designer, and writer who divides his time between Santa Fe (New Mexico) and Berlin. He was trained at l'Ecole Leo Marchutz in Aix-en-Provence (France) where he quickly developed a preference for working on paper in watercolor and gouache. Among his influences are Turner, Bonnard, Kokoschka e Romanesque painters and sculptors. Haggard's work is primarily figurative and reflects a strong interest in the way visual (and by extension spiritual) experience derives from and dissolves into light. He draws from a range of post-impressionist traditions to bend painterly rules regarding color, value, and drawing without destroying the coherence of the image. His interest is the tension between representation and energy.In recent year, much of Haggard's time has been dedicated to a large-scale project called "FACES". Working with acrylic paint on canvas, he has been creating "collectice portraits" in three different cities: Santa Fe, Berlin and San Francisco, California. He paints large individual portraits of people living in each of these cities, sews them toghether into banners, and then hangs them as a tapestry. The FACES project portray the dynamic balance between distinctive individuals and their collective participation in community.
